Jil Evans

Small, medium and large scale (12” x 12” to 8’ x 10’) oil paintings made from observations of natural phenomena on various locations, including the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. Evans bridges her research of historical painters and research travel to raise questions regarding the potential and language of abstract painting.  Through the movement of gestural line, overall composition, the layering of color to find imagined and unfamiliar forms, she builds a perceived illusion of fluid space that is both dramatic and unlike our familiar surroundings. The viewer encounters and subsequently becomes visually enveloped in an emerging, beautiful, imagined kinetic environment.
